WASHINGTON, USA -- US Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen, applauded Thursday’s report by the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board that indicates that with just five percent of recovery dollars spent, more than 30,000 federal contract jobs have been created or saved before September 30 of this year.

“The stimulus is working and is putting people to work and keeping people from losing jobs in the midst of this recession,” Christensen said.
“According to the report, the US Virgin Islands has been paid $19,869,840 of the $115,602,085 in funding that was announced thus far,” she noted.
The preliminary report also indicates that 63 direct federal contract jobs have resulted from the $9.4 million contract award to the Virgin Islands Housing Authority from the Housing and Urban Development’s Capital Fund Recovery Act.
The White House said that the report exceeds expectations. A more comprehensive report is expected at the end of October that will give more detail about how recovery dollars are being spent in the states and territories.
