PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad: Trinidadian Prime Minister Patrick Manning, during winding up of the 2008 budget debate on Wednesday, apologised for prematurely announcing on Monday that information on PNM treasurer Andre Monteil's acquisition of Home Mortgage Bank (HMB) shares had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Police Commissioner and Integrity Commission.

The issue over Andre Monteil and his share transfer has generated much interest and debate in the country, especially by the opposition.
Opposition MP Ganga Singh first raised the matter in Parliament, alleging that Monteil acted improperly by transferring some 110 million dollars worth of HMB shares while he (Monteil) was Chairman of the Home Mortgage Bank.
Manning later responded saying the matter was been addressed.
However, on Wednesday in Parliament, the Prime Minister apologised for prematurely announcing that the information had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Police Commissioner and Integrity Commission.
It is not clear at this time whether charges will be laid against Monteil for financial impropriety. Police are now looking at the allegation.
