New multi-million dollar Caribbean fibre network under construction

ORLANDO, USA: Triton Telecom is building a fibre network across the Caribbean from Florida to Puerto Rico and then to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. It is the first in its region to use submarine cable based on a native 10G system and supporting up to 40G per channel.

ECI Telecom's 9000 Carrier Ethernet Switch Router (CESR) family and XDM Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) have been selected by Triton Telecom (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cobian International Group) for the network. This network is the first in the region to use submarine cable based on a native 10 Gb system, supporting up to 40Gb per channel, and significantly improving bandwidth capacity and service delivery to customers.

The platforms, both part of ECI's 1Net business framework, will deliver IP traffic across the Caribbean, supporting the growing bandwidth requirements in the region. The 1Net framework supports optimised migration to next-generation networks.

As such, the 9000 CESR and XDM platforms will provide Triton with an end-to-end transport solution, supporting both legacy SONET/SDH capabilities along with new IP traffic requirements with speeds of 10 Gig and beyond.

Both platforms help reduce operational and capital expenditures while meeting the requirements of working with existing and future technologies.

In addition to supplying the infrastructure, ECI is also contributing to the overall design and planning of the project. The project is expected to be completed in May 2009.

"Based on the need for more data capacity and new video services in the region, we anticipate 31% growth per year in bandwidth requirements" said Joanne Negron, CEO of Cobian International.

"We are excited to be part of this industry-first network project. Our build-as-you-grow network offerings are reliable and successful in delivering next-generation services while managing high-capacity traffic, and supporting existing infrastructure," said Dave Robison, General Manager, Americas, of ECI Telecom.
