Letter: Appointing Campbell president of SVG will send a wrong message

Published on Friday, October 23, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

I read with great interest an article written by Dr Kenneth John, historian and attorney about the Harbinger of 1979 with key players, Ralph Gonsalves, and PR Campbell who have been fighting for power ever since then... 30 years ago

Gonsalves became Prime Minister, and Campbell was forced out in his quest for power when he had to resign as Attorney General in disgrace, but managed to be named Queen's Counsel on Ralph's recommendation, and now he is on the verge to be knighted in payment for his YES campaign, and later to be the country's first President after the constitution is amended.

Campbell ego has always been big. He tried to gain a PhD without having a Master's degree, but he failed miserably in his bid, and now the bare-faced political grasshopper who moved from party to party for three decades and from Nano to Jeeves, two rival offshore practitioners, wants to be the country's Head of State.

If this happens what message would St. Vincent and the Grenadines would be sending to the rest of the world.

Campbell because of his heavy indebtedness to the Nanos, plus other "gifts" and favours he received from the wealthy Italian, in August 1993, wrongfully advised Cabinet to approve the renewal of the licence to Nano's offshore bank, New Bank, for a period of fifteen years (not one) although the Bank had not filed its financial returns for the year 1992 which is a violation of the laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

How can an Attorney General prostitute his profession and integrity for a few pieces of silver. Would it be right for this man to be knighted and later be Head of State?

The Benson Straugh (who is non existent) is very conversent with the details of what transpired between May and September in Parliament, and even cited laws and regulations, but is "masking" obviously being afraid that I will expose him even more, in his blistering letter ridiculed me and my wife of being silly and irresponsible.

He threw a challenge to my wife to go to St Vincent and challenge the flaws in Court, but he should know that only an electorate (a voter) can challenge the Bill and Mourine is not a registered voter.

Campbell owes me a public apology and until he does so no move to silence me will be effective. What I have said so far is only a tip of the iceberg.
