High Commissioner visits elderly Vincentians in England

HIGH WYCOMBE, England: St Vincent and the Grenadines High Commissioner Cenio Lewis visited the Hairoun Elderly Day Care Centre in High Wycombe as part of the Mission’s policy to visit nationals of St Vincent and the Grenadines who have reached retirement age and are unable to travel out of the area in which they live.

In his brief address to the elderly Vincentians he conveyed them best wishes from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commence and Trade and the government.

He thanked them for the contribution they have made, and continue to make to their homeland.

He explained that the government recognised the part they have played in the development of their country and that is why the Prime Minster is keen to strengthen the bonds between nationals at home and abroad.

The High Commissioner referred to various developments now taking place in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The mention of the airport development caused much excitement and drew the comment from one elderly Vincentian that ‘When the airport is complete we will be able to go home without any hassle’.

At he end of the short address the High Commissioner had lunch with the elderly Vincentians who expressed their appreciation of the visit and hoped the High Commissioner would come to see them again. The High Commissioner promised to do so and wished them a happy Christmas and good health in the New Year.
