NEVIS, West Indies -- In some parts of the world, the fall brings brightly coloured leaves and pumpkin patches, but on the Caribbean island of Nevis, the fall ushers in the high tourist season with the reopening of historic plantation inns featuring new additions, upgrades and changes on the culinary scene.
Golden Rock Inn kicks off the season with a brand new, open-air, glass roof restaurant and terraced water garden offering spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea with Antigua, Montserrat and Redonda in the distance. World-renowned American artists, Brice and Helen Marden, now part owners of the inn, hired architect Ed Tuttle to create the beautiful stone indoor/outdoor dining area. Known for his work at Aman Resorts around the world, Tuttle has also designed a unique stone gazebo that resembles an upside-down copper, used in the original plantation era to boil sugar cane. The hotel reopens with an extensive new wine cellar and Chef Janice Ryan (well known for heading the kitchens at other famed restaurants and hotels in St. Kitts and Nevis) leading the culinary team.
Montpelier Plantation Inn reopens after the summer with a brand new, poolside tapas restaurant, Indigo. An evolution in Montpelier dining, Indigo represents the owners’ commitment to the environment and the importance of buying local products. Responding to their guests’ preference for casual dining, local ingredients and smaller portion sizes, the Caribbean-infused tapas menu encompasses several small tasting dishes that can be shared or easily eaten alone. The hotel also reopens with a new spa suite, featuring large glass windows offering spectacular views. At 750 meters above sea level, the fresh trade winds and scent of jasmine will soothe away any lingering stress. In 2010, the hotel will be increasing its beach activities to cater to the more energetic, health-conscious guest. Ocean kayaks and mountain bicycles will be available at the beach, along with a full selection of snorkel equipment.
Nisbet Plantation Beach Club is stepping up its technology offerings with two Mino Flip digital video recorders available for complimentary guest use. The sleek camcorders record up to 60 minutes of video and are perfect for guests to take around the grounds of Nisbet or on an island tour. The videos can be easily transferred to a guest’s laptop via a USB connection or the Nisbet concierge will be happy to burn a keepsake disc for guests to take home. Nisbet Plantation has recently expanded its wireless internet service and now offers complimentary wireless internet in all guest rooms, the Great House lounge and reception area. Nisbet also has two new Vespa motor-scooters available for rent. What’s more, guests booking a six-night Honeymoon/Romance Package will have priority use of the motor-scooters on a complimentary basis.
From November 21-28, the island will also be hosting the second wave of its very first Peppered Pickled Pirate Party, a week-long festival that celebrates the rich history of the island’s most famous pirates. | | | | Reads : 614 | | | |
