Nemwill to be the Guardian of OECS Half-marathon

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia -- The 2009 Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States half-marathon scheduled to be contested in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday November 15, 2009, will again be sponsored this year by Nemwill Insurance now Guardian General Insurance.

According Arletta Jeffery-Bailey the general manager of Jeffery and Jeffery, the representatives in Saint Lucia for Guardian General Insurances told the local media that “Guardian has always been a strong supporter of regional events.”

Nemwill a sponsor of the OECS half-marathon for seventeen years, will again through its new owner the Trinidad and Tobago-based Guardian Holdings, support this year’s race.

On Monday morning, a cheque of EC$25,000 was handed over to the OECS Sports Coordinator Denis James at the Offices of Jeffery and Jeffery, the representatives in Saint Lucia for Guardian General Insurances.

“We are very privileged to continue this support because we know how important it is for the young people in the islands,” Jeffery-Bailey told the media.

Last year’s race which was held in Saint Lucia saw Zephrinus Joseph winning the event.

This year’s race will be of added interest with the legendary Vincentian long distance runner Pamenos Ballentyne wil be expected to face two of his nemesis, Zephrinus Joseph and Victor Ledgers; both of Saint Lucia on his home territory.
