PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: The parents of an eight-year-old child are accusing the Ministry of Health in Trinidad and Tobago of covering up the cause of their child's death.
They are claiming that the child, Sasha, died from dengue fever, since the death certificate stated that the cause of death was “acute bleeding dengue" and sickle thalasemmie (sic).
The controversy is causing much concern in the San Fernando district in South Trinidad.
No autopsy was performed, and the child's mother Gloria Bickram said the claim by Health Minister Jerry Narace that her daughter did not die from dengue “could not be true because that is what the blood test result showed, and this is what is on the death certificate."
Copies of the child's death certificate have been posted in public places along Mission Road, Freeport, were the Bickrams live. The parents said that they did this to alert other parents to be vigilant and protect their families against the dengue fever threat.
The Trinidad Express reported that, since Sasha's death, there have been at least six cases of suspected dengue fever in the village, among them her two cousins.
Insect vector control officers sprayed the village last Thursday - the day Sasha was buried.
The Ministry of Health has ordered an investigation. | | | | Reads : 147 |
