SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico: New Progressive Party President Luis Fortuño presented his party’s gubernatorial platform before thousands of NPP faithful just three months shy of the November elections.
The NPP platform dubbed “Vision, Change and Future” was unanimously approved by party delegates this weekend at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
The NPP government plan aims at “taking over the government reigns to rebuild the island by focusing on bringing Puerto Rican’s back their hope and promising goals that can be reached.”

Fortuño said that “our program of vision, change and future is focused on rescuing our country from one of the worst economic, political and social crisis in our history.”
“This next election represents a historic moment for Puerto Rico…in crucial terms such as the economy, employment, criminality, corruption, education and the cost of living. That is why, today I ask you to give me your vote of confidence to achieve the change we all want,” Fortuño said. “Our goal is to build a strong economic island that can face the changes in a globalized and modern world, an island filled with people that work, produce and export our services and first class human resources.”
“I am convinced that our wise people will look towards the future and will know who to choose (as the island’s governor). Together we will achieve our objectives. There is no other option; Puerto Rico can not sustain a third term under the Popular Democratic Party. Let’s begin a period of reconstruction and Puerto Rican renovation. We must renovate our determination, force, purpose and our faith and hope into a new awakening…,” Fortuño said as thousands of followers cheered.
Meanwhile, NPP delegates also approved a proposal aimed at following the recommendations made by the White House status task force, which calls for a referendum on the Puerto Rico’s status to be held on the island.
Fortuño said that if the US Congress fails to abide by the task force recommendations he will hold a local plebiscite so Puerto Ricans can vote and demonstrate “that we do want to be a part of the United States.” | | | | Reads : 75 |
