GEORGETOWN, Guyana: The West Indies selectors have omitted reliable wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin from the 15-man squad selected to participate in the Tri Nation series in Canada and the ICC Champions trophy in Pakistan in September.
Newly elected chairman of the selection panel, Guyanese Clyde Butts said in Georgetown that Ramdin was sidelined because he is not scoring runs, while his rival Jamaican Carlton Baugh is successful with the bat, having scored a century against Australia recently. The lanky off spinner agreed that Ramdin is the best wicketkeeper in the Caribbean, but is not doing well with the bat.
Two newcomers have been named in the squad. They are: Leon Johnson and Australian-born all rounder Brendon Nash.
Although Chris Gayle announced two weeks ago that he will resign as captain, he was named to lead the squad: The other players are: Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Xavier Marshall, Shawn Findlay, Leon Johnson, Brendon Nash, Carlton Baugh, Dave Mohamed, Nikita Miller, Kemar Roach, Fidel Edwards, Daren Powell, and Jerome Taylor.
Chanderpaul will miss the Tri Nation series, which will be played in Canada between August 16 and 26, but will join the team to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan between September 12 and 28. | | | | Reads : 491 | | | |
