Email To Friend Print Version | PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; New Governor to the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), Gordon Wetherell, is scheduled to arrive in the country on Monday.
Wetherell’s arrival was originally announced for the third week of August but appears to have been moved up, possibly because of controversy surrounding the appointment of a Commission of Enquiry by former governor, Richard Tauwhare, just five days before his departure from the TCI earlier this month.

Accompanied by his wife and daughter, Wetherell will be met upon arrival at the Providenciales International Airport by the Acting Governor, Mahala Wynns.
After a brief meeting with the press/ media in the VIP lounge, the delegation will travel on to Grand Turk, where on Tuesday Wetherell will be sworn in as governor at the House of Assembly, on Front Street in Grand Turk.
Wetherell has served as Britain’s ambassador to Ethiopia and Luxembourg, and most recently as British High Commissioner to Ghana.
According to evidence given to Britain’s Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC) by a Foreign and Commonwealth (FCO) official earlier this year, Wetherell’s appointment as governor to the TCI represents an “upgrade” in the position.
Meg Munn MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the FCO, with responsibility for the Overseas Territories told the FAC that there is a range of problems and difficulties in the TCI and that the situation is demanding, so that it was “appropriate that there be a Governor of a higher grade.” | | | | Reads : 77 |
