The record, currently held by the French team La Mondiale, stands at 39 days, 8 hours and 30 minutes. Although many have tried, all have failed to beat the time set in 1992.
Until now…
Woodvale Challenge Ltd are putting together a crew of 6 to break the record.
Using their vast knowledge of designing and building ocean rowing boats Woodvale Challenge will build a new six man boat purposefully designed for the voyage. Combining sophisticated carbon technology with essential safety properties, the boat will be the formula one of ocean rowing boats promising to be as slick on the water as it is off.
Double ocean rower, Simon Chalk, will head up the six man team using his experience to pick and train an unbeatable team to ensure that the record comes home for Great Britain. He is looking for 5 crew members with the grit, determination and sense of adventure that this record attempt will demand.
Simon Chalk commented saying, "I am delighted to have secured a South - West sponsor for this high profile record attempt. It is an exciting prospect to be going back to sea with a view to taking the highest valued prize in the world of Ocean Rowing."
The record attempt will take place in December 2007 running alongside the Atlantic Rowing Race 2007 scheduled to start on 2nd December. |
