Dear Sir:

The wisdom of the United States Congress, with their 9 percent approval rating, recently passed (House of Representatives, April, 2008) the Jubilee Act for Responsible Lending and Expanded Debt Cancellation of 2008 as the answer to solving the crisis in Haiti.

You see, Haiti owes $1,097,800,000 to multilateral financial institutions (let's face it, that means the USA) and they don't have the "money" to pay any of it back. In addition, they owe $595,800,000 to the International Development Association but it's normally not counted since it was in Duvalier's time. (Yes, that's over 30 years ago, and its yet to be paid back) The USA is going to write it, or pay it all off, on behalf of the Haitian government.

Since 1996, when the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC) was created by the USA, more than 30 nations have seen some form of debt relief totaling approximately $80,000,000,000. That's right, $80 billion USDs has been written off in 12 years with a sizeable portion going to African nations and Haiti.

We're talking about a whole lot of cash and what has it accomplished in poor countries around the globe? Well, it has placed at least three Africans in the "unofficial" top 100 list of the richest people in the world. Not the Forbes list, which is official and doesn't count stolen assets as part of its calculations.

So where's the outcry against this thievery? You won't find it in the US Congress because the Democrats are calling Bush evil for not pumping another $125 million in cold, hard, cash into the hands of the Haitian government ASAP.

You won't find it amongst the American people, because they are resigned to accepting the fact, that any money going into Haiti will be stolen and they don't want to be called "racist" for objecting.

The "Hate America First" crowd in the USA is using it to ring their cash registers (donations) by calling America, the evil imperialists, filthy rich. and unwilling to help the poor Haitians.

The USA will just tack it on to their $9.5 trillion dollar debt. (That's $31,500 debt for every single American including children) After all, the USA is rich and afford it!
