BRADES, Montserrat: The Ministry of Education and Labour has notified Montserrat nationals of its intent to meet the economic costs of private students attending the University of the West Indies (UWI).

According to the Permanent Secretary, there are certain stipulations that must be met before a Montserratian will be considered.

Initially, students must make a request for the government to meet the economic costs of their study.

Thereafter, a qualified student would be pursuing studies in government-approved priority training area. It does not matter what year of attendance a student may be in.

Additionally, for a student to be considered, the course of study being pursued would lead to sustainable economic activity on Montserrat.

Should a student be considered, the student must make arrangements through a signed agreement with the government of Montserrat to repay the government at least 20 percent of any money paid by the government of Montserrat to the UWI on a student’s behalf.

Any student considering this option should be aware that they are expected to sign a bond to ensure that they would be willing to work for the government for a number of years equivalent to length of study. Further, this service must be given immediately upon completion of the period of study.
