ROAD TOWN, BVI: On Saturday night at 9:34pm two armed gunmen robbed the Tamarind Club in the British Virgin Islands of an undisclosed sum of money.

The gunmen held the patrons up at gunpoint and demanded that they emptied their pockets on the tables which they did. Reports say the money on the table totaled more than $2,500.
Also, one of the patrons was taken to the bar where they were forced to remove the cash from the cash register. The robbers then left the restaurant and made their escape in a beige long base Vitara that was waiting in the nearby yard with a third person inside. They made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The police are also confirming that a second robbery took place on the same night at the C&F Restaurant in Purcell Estate.
Two gunmen fully clothed in black wearing black mask entered the C&F Restaurant at about 10:20pm.
One of the men was said to be about 5 feet 11 inches while the other was about 5 feet 8 inches in height. Having entered, one of the men held the staff at gunpoint while the other went to the bar the demanded money. He then removed the cash from the cash register and left the restaurant.
The police are conducting enquiries in the robberies and are asking anyone with information to please contact any police station or the police hotline.
Just about two weekends ago, another couple operating a business in the capital was robbed at gun point and more than $2,000 stolen. The man was also injured after he received a gun butt from one of the robbers.
Police have failed to make any arrests in connection with these robberies. Also, some business people are complaining of the failure of the authorities to grant them a license to operate a firearm.
Chief Minister Dr Orlando Smith and Governor David Pearey more than two months ago issued a joint statement on crime in the BVI and issued a seven- point agenda aimed at assisting the police in dealing with the situation. |
