TAMPA, USA: The second annual Caribbean-American Carnival in Tampa, Florida, billed as King Kong Caribbean-American Euphoria, to be held on April 28, 2007 at the Florida State Fairgrounds, is poised for growth. The event marks the opening of Caribbean-American carnivals in America.

President of Tampa Caribbean Festival Inc (a not for profit organisation), Anthony Devon George, says that “it is an honour to launch Caribbean-American carnival in a big way, to create a multi-cultural connection right here in Tampa”.

With over 5,000 persons in attendance during its inaugural year in 2006, the figure is expected to grow to at least 7,000 in 2007 with Caribbean-American people coming from other states.

In addition, some of the Caribbean’s headline performers have confirmed their involvement with the line-up being led by Trinidad and Tobago’s 2007 Soca Monarch, Iwer George. Other top-notch performers include soca legend calyposonian ‘Crazy’ and super entertainer Denise ‘Saucy Wow’ Belfon. Other music will be provided by top US based, Caribbean DJ’s and well-known personalities from popular Caribbean/American flavoured radio stations.

In ensuring that the event is a close representation of the various Caribbean isles and heritage, plans are to have folk dancers from the Bahamas, reggae music from Jamaica, Haitian music, live steel pan, a costumed parade for both adults and children, Indo-Caribbean dance and drumming, art and craft on sale, a Caribbean-American food fair and other abstracts from the 33 island Caribbean nations.

The event continues to be a family affair and this year, greater emphasis will be placed on keeping the children entertained with games and rides being provided in a specially allocated kid’s zone. Gates open at noon with admission being $15 (12 years plus), $5 (children 6-12 years) and free admission for children under 6.

To set the scene for the actual Carnival, several pre-carnival events have been scheduled as follows in various clubs and locations:
