BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: The Cricket Legends of Barbados are visiting London in June to promote the West Indies vs. England test matches taking place in early 2009 and specifically the matches being played in Barbados.

The focus of the visit will be three high profile events, which are being organised by the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) in partnership with the Professional Cricketers’ Association.

The Legends visiting will include Sir Everton Weekes, Wes Hall, Charlie Griffith, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Ian Bradshaw, Courtney Browne, Sherwin Campbell, Vasbert Drakes, Alvin Greenidge, Roland Holder, Ezra Moseley, Thelston Payne, Patterson Thompson and Philo Wallace.

On June 5 there is a special Gala Dinner in the Legends honour at a Central London hotel, to be attended by 200 people. On June 6 there is a corporate cricket day at Wormsley, the cricket ground owned by the late Sir Paul Getty, which is regarded as one of the most atmospheric and beautiful private grounds in the world.

The highlight of the visit is a Twenty20 cricket match on June 8 between the Barbados Legends and the Professional Cricket Association Masters at the famous Brit Oval in London.

Petra Roach, European Vice President of Marketing & Sales at the BTA said, "It is a privilege to welcome our esteemed Legends to England to promote Barbados’s participation in the 2009 West Indies vs. England test series.

"The events we are holding, particularly the Twenty20 match at the Brit Oval, will be a unique opportunity for key influencers and cricket fans to meet with our Legends and to see them play. We Barbadians are renowned for our love of cricket, so it is only natural that England fans following next year’s test series will want to base themselves in Barbados."
