Miss CARICOM International team visits Montserrat

BRADES, Montserrat: Organisers of the Miss CARICOM International Pageant will arrive on Montserrat this weekend to begin promotions for the event, which will be held on the island later this year.

The team is being led by pageant founder Monica Sanchez, and also includes Chief executive Officer of Mortgage Bank in the USA, Ray-Nazir Rasheed, 2006 Miss CARICOM International contestant Tiffany Duncan of Jamaica, and the reigning Miss Antigua and Barbuda, Nakita Bruno.

They will spend one day on Montserrat, looking at the state of the art Cultural Centre at Little Bay, which has been chosen as the venue for hosting the 2007 pageant.

Sanchez said “I have seen your new Cultural Center and I love what I see.”

While on Montserrat, Sanchez and her team will also meet with the local pageant planning committee and members of the media and press.

They will also attend a special dinner hosted by Chief Minister Dr Lowell Lewis.

The Miss CARICOM International Beauty Pageant is in its third year, it features contestants from around the world including Africa, Haiti and Panama.

It was first held in 2004 in Guyana with US actor Danny Glover as one of the main judges.

The 2006 Miss CARICOM International Beauty Pageant was held on September 9, at the Apollo Theatre in New York, Miss Belize was crowned the winner.

Montserrat will host the 2007 Miss CARICOM International Pageant from July 14 to 28.
