NEW YORK, USA (JIS): Ambassadors and Consuls General from member states of CARICOM are to meet with their constituents within the next two weeks to get suggestions that should form part of the discussions between President George Bush and Caribbean Leaders at a Summit in June in Washington, D.C.

The conference will be held from June 19 to 21, and the leaders are expected to use the opportunity to go one-on-one with the US President on a range of topics relevant to the Caribbean community.

This meeting comes at a time when much attention will be focused on the of the United States, during Caribbean Heritage Month, which will be celebrated in June.

The first meeting with Caribbean nationals in New York will be held on March 29 at the Polytechnic University, downtown Brooklyn.

Following a meeting on Tuesday of the New York Caribbean Consular Corps to finalize plans for the town hall meeting, Jamaica's Consul General and former Chairman, Dr Basil K. Bryan, said that the meeting and the upcoming leaders conference, would go a far way in strengthening relationships within the Caribbean-American Diaspora.

Bryan said that as the region comes together as a single market and economy, the strengthening of relationships with the United States was pivotal.

He also said that the shared legacy of the Cricket World Cup championship currently underway in the region, would help to accelerate the realization of "one Caribbean."

From New York, the next meeting will be held at the West Indian Social Club, Hartford, Connecticut on Friday, March 30. The Pennsylvania meeting will take place on Saturday, March 31.
