Government said membership would “give the country the opportunity to advance the agenda of Small Island Developing States on sustainable development, particularly at this challenging time in our own development.”
In a post-Cabinet statement, Minister of State for Information, Sen. Nigel Carty said that the Federal Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis had approved for St. Kitts and Nevis, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to seek membership on UNESCO for the period 2009 to 2011.
The Council's mandate is to promote higher standards of living, full employment and economic and social progress, cultural and educational cooperation, and universal respect for human rights. |
