ROAD TOWN, BVI: Cable & Wireless and the only mobile provider in the British Virgin Islands, CCT Global Communications have signed an Interconnection Agreement Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the companies.
This understanding is the final milestone prior to the liberalisation of the telecoms market.
Interconnection is a necessary agreement linking two networks for the exchange of traffic.
“With the signing of this MOU completed, this paves the way to an open and level playing field in the BVI” explained Vance Lewis, Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless. “The remaining obstacle is the issuance of unitary licenses for those operators who will be allowed to provide telecommunications services. We are pleased we have been able to accomplish this without all of the acrimony that has occurred in other markets. As previously announced, we are ready!”
Lewis said once all unitary licenses have been issued the only thing left to accomplish is the launching of bMobile, the most recognized mobile service in the Caribbean. Lewis said he cannot see anything that can prevent Cable and Wireless getting its unitary licence after the March 31st deadline given by government.
He said the end result is that Cable & Wireless, who first pioneered Free Incoming Calls, Per Second Billing, Electronic Top UP and more value with the lowest rates throughout the Caribbean, is now poised to launch these value added services in the BVI.
He said for consumers, this means incoming calls will be free of charge for bmobile phone users just as they are for fixed line customers. Effectively, customers will have more minutes to use with greater value and have total control over the cost of their bmobile service.
According to Lewis, bMobile will be the leader in technology, providing the best value for money with unrivalled island-wide coverage and reliability as BVI enters a dynamic telecoms market. |
