Cuba, Samoa establish diplomatic relations

Email To Friend Print Version | HAVANA, Cuba (AFP): Cuba has estalished diplomatic relations with the Pacific island of Samoa, which became the 186th nation to have ties with the communist-ruled country, an official statement said Saturday.
The diplomatic ties were formally established during a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York, according to the statement published in the official daily Granma.
"Both countries are members of the Alliance of Small Island States and, guided by the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, they based their relations on friendship and mutual respect," the statement said.
