SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (Bloomberg): The Dominican Republic's exports rose 63 percent in the first eight months of 2007, led by higher prices for iron-nickel ore and demand from the US.
Exports increased to $1.57 billion through August this year, from $962.7 million in the same period a year earlier, the country's export and investment agency said in a statement on Tuesday. The total for 2007 may reach $2.2 billion, a 44 percent increase from 2006, according to the statement. The figures exclude the Dominican Republic's manufacturing free-trade zones.
The Dominican Republic had earlier reported a budget surplus of 20.4 billion pesos ($609 million) in the first nine months of the year.
Government revenue, excluding foreign aid and loans, rose 33 percent from a year earlier to 171.3 billion pesos. Spending climbed 20 percent to 150.9 billion pesos, excluding foreign debt payments, the country's finance ministry said last week on its website. | | | | Reads : 373 | | | |
