NORTH CAROLINA, USA: Barbados sprinter Obadele Thompson and multi-Olympic gold medallist Marion Jones got married in a small ceremony in rural North Carolina, the officiating minister said Wednesday.
"It wasn't elaborate just very private," said Tyrrel, who is Thompson's uncle. "It was very homely, very quiet and simple."
The wedding was the second for the 31-year-old Jones, whose first marriage was to American shot putter C.J. Hunter.
At the Sydney Olympic Games in Australia in 2000, Jones won three gold medallist, while Thompson took a bronze medal in the men's 100-metre dash behind American Maurice Greene.
Thompson, 30, also ran the fastest 100 ever in any conditions when he recorded a wind-aided time of 9.69 seconds in 1996.
Jones, the only woman to win five track medals at an Olympics has a three-year-old son with former 100m world record holder Tim Montgomery, who was later found guilty of using banned substances. |
