PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD: The Trinidad and Tobago Trade and Investment Mission which is currently in the Far East, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese government, which is expected to lure more tourists to Trinidad and Tobago.

Under the arrangement, China has granted approved destination status to the country.

The signing took place at the offices of the China National Tourism Administration in Beijing. Officials of China and other signatories included Trinidad and Tobago's Trade and Industry Minister, Kenneth Valley.

China was represented by Gu Zaw-Wi, Vice-Chairman of China's NTA.

Trinidad and Tobago now joins the ranks of countries, such as the United States and Norway, which have become approved destinations for tourism travel by persons from China.

Some 30 million Chinese nationals travel to various countries every year, and the memorandum of understanding between this country and China is in keeping with the Trinidad and Tobago government's policy to implement strategies that would exploit the country's tourism potential.
