Email To Friend Print Version | CARACAS, Venezuela (AFP): Venezuelan television RCTV was back on Monday, via subscriber satellite and cable, after President Hugo Chavez refused to renew its standard broadcast license in May.
"It is a different morning for those who can see us on pay TV, and for those who cannot see us," Beatriz Perez Ayala, an RCTV vice president, told reporters.
RCTV was Venezuela's oldest and most popular television channel before it was shut down May 28 by Chavez. He refused to renew its expired broadcasting license on grounds the network was conspiring to overthrow him.
With its soap opera-heavy program schedule and a firm, independent political line often critical of Chavez, RCTV was the country's most viewed channel, and its shutdown in May provoked widespread protests and international condemnation.
