Letter: Mixed message as banks quit business with Cuba

Published on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

It sends a mixed moral message as banks, including the Swisss, who pledge neutrality as a cover when they take money from corrupt dictators and crime syndicates, find it necessary to end relations with Cuba over a illegitamate economic blockade and pressures by the United States.

No, Cuba is not perfect, but it furnishes an example to the world as to how even a poor nation can educate its citizens and provide health care while making an effort to help even poor nations.

And thanks for Caribbean News. It provides a needed window into a diverse, important, and interesting group of nations that otherwise get little attention in our media.
