KINGSTON, Jamaica: Kris Mychasiw, the agent of Jamaican Sheri Ann Brooks believes this is the year for the sprinter to shine and he is expecting great things from her as the 2007 season progresses.

Brooks, the 2006 Commonwealth Games champion from Melbourne, Australia, has been impressive, thus far in the season and Mychasiw is expecting even better things from her, especially with the Jamaica Championships scheduled to begin this week.

“I am very confident we will see a new personal best for Sheri-Ann over the 200m,” Mychasiw told Caribbean Net News via electronic mail.

“Sheri-Ann at heart is a 200m sprinter and she continues to build her speed over 100m, by doing so, she has become a threat at all major meets on the circuit in both the 100m and 200m races,” he added.

With the major Grand Prix events on the circuit not offering too many half-lap races, Mychasiw said they are keen on taking on every opportunity given to enter her in the event.

“This season, there are not as many opportunities to run the 200m at a grand prix level,” said. “So we want to capitalize to move back up in the rankings.

“Points are very important for the camp right now and the goal is to get back into the top 10 over the distance as soon as possible.”

Already this season Brooks has proven to be a handful for her competition - chalking a couple of sprint doubles on the European circuit where she landed seasonal bests of 11.19 (ties personal best) for the 100m and 22.87 for the 200m.

She is currently ranked 13th in the 100m behind fellow countrywoman Sherone Simpson and 23rd in the 200m, which is being led by Belgium’s European sprint champion Kim Gevaert.

As the season progresses Mychasiw is expecting some major jumps.

“This year will be a big year we are looking to go flirt with the sub 11 second barrier for 100m and to run 22.2 range over 200m,” he told Caribbean Net News.

He also confirmed that there have never been any sudden chances to Brooks’ work-out routine, regardless of the competition at hand.
