Jamaican PM appoints Cabinet sub-committee for CWC

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS): Jamaican Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, has appointed a Cabinet sub-committee to monitor all aspects of the government's activities in its preparation leading up to the ninth staging of the ICC Cricket World Cup next month.

Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan who, made the announcement at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing on Monday,  told journalist that this sub-committee would "ensure that over the next three weeks all aspects of the government's involvement in the preparations, as well as the execution of the activities of World Cup Cricket are monitored on a daily basis by the political directorate".

The sub-committee will be headed by Minister of Housing, Transport, Water and Works, Robert Pickersgill and will comprise the Minister of National Security, Dr Peter Phillips; Minister of Local Government and Environment, Dean Peart; Minister of Health, Horace Dalley; Minister of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture, Aloun Assamba; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Delano Franklyn.
