Montserrat contributes to regional talks

BRADES, Montserrat: Montserrat has contributed to regional discussions focusing on advancing trade, economic development, and financial planning.

Regional Affairs Officer, Claudia Skerritt, and the Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing, and the Environment, Annie-Dyer Howe, attended the 2nd Joint Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) and the Council for Finance and Planning. 

Skerritt, along with regional representatives, made recommendations for a way forward on a number of issues, including the revised document of the Single Economy and Single Development Vision.

The impact of tariff liberalisation was also examined, in the context of fiscal harmonization and external trade negotiations, the CARICOM Investment Code (CIC), and the CARICOM Financial Services Agreement (CFSA). These discussions also included the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) and the Regional Development Agency (RDA).

Interventions were made by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM), the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), the University of the West Indies (UWI), and the CARICOM Secretariat.

Montserrat continues to strive for regional integration through its continued attendance and participation in regional trade, economic, and financial talks.
