OAS secretary general calls on Colombia and Venezuela to re-establish dialogue

WASHINGTON, USA -- The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, has called on the governments of Colombia and Venezuela to re-establish the mechanisms of dialogue to resolve the tensions between the two countries.

“Common problems must be resolved together and points of contention must be solved through diplomatic channels,” Insulza said. He also raised the problematic of the countries’ common border, in which an effort of cooperation and integration has become more and more necessary and urgent.
“Offers by third parties that seek to facilitate dialogue between the two governments are a good way to promote rapprochement and discuss the different points of view. For this reason, a bilateral meeting proposed by the Government of Brazil in the framework of the meeting of Amazonian countries in Manaos, on November 26, presents itself as a valuable initiative that can help in resolving tensions.”
“The OAS supports and accompanies the efforts of integration between sister countries, and all initiatives that seek to guarantee peace and cooperation will be welcome,” Insulza concluded. | | | | Reads : 448 | | | |
