CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Every year International Creole Day is celebrated on October 28, however, St Lucia observes the day on the Sunday which closest to that date. This year it was celebrated on October 25 and since October has been designated Creole Heritage month, a programme of activities has been scheduled to take place throughout the length and breadth of the island.

Some of these activities included conferences and workshops on things creole, a creole ball, creole music and dance sessions,
Business establishments and schools around the island celebrated Vanndwedi Kweyol (Creole Friday) in grand style. While the school children were all dressed up in madras outfits, the employees and employers also donned their madras designer clothing. At some establishments the creole language was spoken throughout the day, while at others the clients were treated with creole breakfast, lunch and music.
Jounen Kweyol was celebrated in many communities on October 23 and 24, but it all climaxed with the grand finale in the host communities on October 25. Church services, fashion shows, exhibitions of things creole, creole music, food and dance could be found all the different venues.
