Miami schools want to ban Cuba book

MIAMI, USA (UPI): The Miami-Dade school district wants to ban a children's book on Cuba from libraries saying it is an inaccurate portrayal of the Communist island.

Representatives of the school district pleaded their case Wednesday before federal appellate judges, saying "Vamos a Cuba" (Let's go to Cuba) does not accurately portray the hardships of living under the Castro regime, Miami's WSVN-TV reported

"The school board is saying these books are rife with factual omissions that render it unsuitable," school board attorney Richard Ovelmen told the judges.

Last year, the board voted to remove the book from the shelves of school libraries, though the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the decision, saying books of varying political opinions should be a part of children's education.
