Second place finishes for Mothersill and Lloyd in Glasgow

GLASGOW, Scotland: Cayman Islands' Cydonie Mothersill and Dominica's Chris Lloyd were the best placed Caribbean athletes in wet and cold weather conditions at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Glasgow on Sunday.

Mothersill, a World Indoor and Commonwealth Games 200m finallist finished a close second in the women's 100m behind American Stephanie Durst who won the race with a time of 11.43 seconds.
Mothersill posted 11.44, while her fellow islander Aleen Bailey a member of the Jamaican Olympic gold medal quarter in Athens finished third in 11.46. Bahamian Chandra Sturrup equalled her fastest time in two seasons, but again after a rock start faded into fourth place in 11.48.
At a meeting that attracted a host of British athletes, the Caribbean pilled up several other top three finishes on the busy day for umbrella's and sheltering in the stands.
Dominica's national indoor and outdoor record holder Lloyd ran a brave on the splashing surface to clock 20.95 and take second in the men's 200m which was won by Rodney Martin of USA in 20.88.
Jamaica's CAC champion Xavier Brown crossed the finishing line fifth in 21.10.
In the men's 400m that ended in thriller between reigning African champion Gary Kikaya of Congo and Xavier Carter of USA, Jamaica's 2002 Commonwealth Games winner Michael Blackwood (45.55) finished strongly to take third - just one-hundredth-of-second ahead of John Steffensen of Australia.
Jamaica's Shevon Stoddart (57.77) and Barbadian Andrea Blackett (58.55) were third and fourth respectively in the women's 400m Hurdles, while Leevan Sands from the Bahamas leapt 16.68m for third in the men's Triple Jump competition. | | | | Reads : 248 | | | |
