Jamaican Consulate in Toronto attacked, Canadian police investigating

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) -- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is investigating the circumstances surrounding an attack on the Jamaican Consulate in Toronto, early Wednesday morning, which left minor damage.

In a release on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade stated that, according to official reports, at about 4 am, three persons threw two 'molotov cocktail' devices through a window of the basement garage of the Consulate, starting a fire.
The fire brigade was summoned and the firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which burnt sections of an office van. The firefighters gained entry to the building by smashing a glass door.
The police found remnants of the two devices used in the unexpected attack on the building, for which no motive has yet been determined. The building also houses the Jamaica Tourist Board and Jamaica Information Service (JIS) offices.
Commenting on the attack, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kenneth Baugh, commended the Canadian police and fire brigade for their speedy and efficient response.
