Dear Sir:
Now that Scotland Yard detectives have come to the conclusion that Coach Bob Woolmer was not murdered, it has become obvious that Mark Shields, Jamaica's deputy police commissioner, was either lying or grossly incompetent in both his reaction as well as investigation of the case. Maybe he was guilty of both.
In his desire to become an instant celebrity, he brought incalculable damage to the reputation of the Caribbean, cast an immense pall over the World Cup cricket from which it never recovered, cast all sorts of terrible innuendo on the Pakistani team and worst of all brought further grief and suffering to the family of the late Coach.
Mark Shields has no place in the Jamaican Police. He should be fired and an inquiry into his investigation must now be initiated against him.
