Dominica and South Africa desire broader cooperation

Email To Friend Print Version | ROSEAU, Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica and the Republic of South Africa have both expressed the need for cooperation on a broader range of issues.
This information came to light when advocate Faith Doreen Radebe, High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to the Commonwealth of Dominica presented her Letter of Credence to the President of Dominica, Dr. Nicholas Liverpool recently.
In his address on the occasion of the presentation of credentials, Dr. Nicholas Liverpool said that since the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Republic of South Africa established diplomatic relations in 1998, Dominica “ has had a very keen interest to strengthen ties with your country”.
While acknowledging that relations between Dominica and South Africa are largely conducted on a regional level though CARICOM, Dominica’s Head of State expressed the wish of the Commonwealth of Dominica for “ consideration to be given to the pursuit of bilateral Cooperation Agreements in the areas of the exchange of technical expertise, information technology, education , health and culture”.
In her remarks , the new High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa , Faith Doreen Radebe also expressed her desire for broader cooperation with the Commonwealth of Dominica.
“ South Africa and the Commonwealth of Dominica share, to a some extent a common African origin and also a common history, which define the basis for the togetherness of our two peoples. Our cultures have common traits and this should be explored to bring us even closer together in a bond of true friendship,” Faith Doreen Radebe stated.
The new High Commissioner continued:“ I believe that the cross-pollination of our rich cultures has the potential of unlocking other areas of cooperation in such fields as education, trade and tourism to name just a few. ...”
The new High Commissioner also promised to assist Dominica in its tourism development thrust in light of her country’s success in that area.
“ I have observed with keen interest the positive developments in your tourism sector. As you may well be aware, this sector has played a significant role in economic growth in South Africa, especially with regard to employment generation. We stand ready to share our experiences with you in a mutually beneficial way that would see this sector develop further in our two countries,” Faith Doreen Radebe concluded.
