BRADES, Montserrat: Montserrat’s Chief Minister, Dr Lowell Lewis, has been appointed to the position of Alternate Governor on the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and has revealed plans to utilise his attendance to acquire financial assistance for the country.

Chief Minister of Montserrat,
Dr Lowell Lewis
On May 30, 2007, in Venezuela, Lewis was recognised in the position, during the 37th annual two-day meeting of the CDB Board of Governors. Lewis will represent the CDB grouping for a term of one year.

The Board of Governors is the highest policy-making body of CDB, and it meets once a year to look over the operations of the Caribbean Development Bank and makes major policy decisions.

The Caribbean Development Bank’s grouping includes Anquilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Montserrat.

Lewis and the other members of the CDB Board of Governors will review the operations of the Bank over the past year and make major policy decisions.

Lewis says, “My attendance at this meeting is important as I will attempt to secure, from CDB, significant financial support for Montserrat’s continued development and a number of projects over the next couple of years.”

Each member country of the Bank is represented on the Board of Governors. Further, newly admitted member, Haiti, will be represented as a participant for the first time in this 37th annual meeting, instead of an observer.

Hoping to identify yet another viable option to stimulate Montserrat’s crippled economy, Lewis intends to obtain monetary assistance from one of the region’s most significant financial body, through his attendance at its annual Caracas meeting.
