GEORGETOWN, Guyana (GINA): Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad on Friday met two members of the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) to discuss the new developments in the hotel industry and seek advice on how to assist local hoteliers.

Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the CHA Alex Sanguinetti, President of the Association Keith Ogle and Executive Director of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Maureen Paul met the Minister at his office.

The CHA representatives are in Guyana on a two-day visit to address a local gathering of hoteliers, and other operators in the industry on the legacy of CWC for the Caribbean and the way forward.

The Minister said this is a timely visit, since the local tourism sector is trying to equip itself to be better prepared to attract tourists and have packages designed which will cater for their specific needs.

The sector, in trying to capitalise on the successes of the hosting Super Eight Matches of Cricket World Cup and the Rio Summit, is trying to adapt to changes which will attract more tourists.

Prashad pointed out that the CHA representatives have vast experience in the hotel industry and will be able to give advice on what Guyana should do next.

The Ministry is currently preparing to host a one-day conference for operators in the industry to look at pricing and packaging. The conference will be held on June 6 at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.

The Caribbean Hotels Association is a regional umbrella organization which works in collaboration with training institutions to provide hotel staffers within the Region with training, marketing and other technical services.
