Email To Friend Print Version | PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (UPI): A patrol boat from the Turks and Caicos Islands rammed a Haitian vessel bound for the United States that sank this week killing dozens.
The migrants' boat was rammed, then overturned after it was towed into deep waters off the coast of the Caribbean islands, Haitian radio reported Thursday.
More than 70 of the 150 people on board the ship reportedly died at sea.
Officials said the survivors claimed they paid about $6,000 for illegal passage to the United States.
Coast Guard officials say 909 Haitians have been apprehended at sea since the beginning of the year.
