WILLAMSTED, Curacao: The Government of the Netherlands Antilles recently received a request from the government of the United Kingdom to start the negotiation process of a ‘mini’ Tax Treaty.

Secretary of Finance,
Alex Rosaria
Basically there are two types of tax treaties, namely, a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) and a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA). A ‘mini’ Tax Agreement is a TIEA with important elements of a DTA.

According to the State Secretary of Finance of the Netherlands Antilles, Alex Rosaria, his policy is to cooperate with important jurisdictions in order to prevent tax fraud and other abuses of the international financial system.

Recently, Rosaria signed TIEA’s with Australia and New Zealand. The Netherlands Antilles hopes to soon sign a TIEA with Spain and a DTA with neighbouring Venezuela.
