Dominica senator sworn in as new minister for education

ROSEAU, Dominica: Senator Sonia Williams was on Thursday sworn in as the new Minister for Education, Human Resource Development, Sports and Youth Affairs. On Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit announced changes to his Cabinet and promised further changes in the new year.

Williams is now the second female in the Cabinet. Loreen Bannis-Roberts the Minister for Community Development, Culture, Gender Affairs and Information is other female member of Cabinet.

At the Parade of Uniformed Groups on November 3rd 2008, Sonia Williams was conferred with the Meritorious Service Award by the President of Dominica, Dr Nicholas Liverpool, DAH, OCC.

Williams has made an outstanding contribution to Dominica in the fields of Education and Social Work for over forty years. She has also served as a member of various organizations including the Government Housing Loans Board, Dominica Public Service Union, Dominica Co-operative Societies League and Roseau Co-operative Credit Union.

Former Minister for Education, Vince Henderson is now the new Minister for Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Labour. Former Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore has replaced Ambrose George as the Minister for Public Works and Infrastructural Development. Prime Minister Skerrit now has responsibility for National Security.
