GEORGETOWN, Guyana: One hundred and fifteen passengers travelling between Guyana and New York via Port of Spain on Wednesday were seriously inconvenienced when Caribbean Airlines flight No. 424 had instrument glitches and the flight was eventually cancelled.
Kaieteur News reported that there were at least three unsuccessful attempts to commence the journey, but the decision was eventually made to abort after it was discovered that the airspeed Indicator was malfunctioning.
At 1:15 pm, the aircraft made its first attempt to take off, but that was aborted. Passengers were told that there was a minor malfunction and that it would be resolved.
A short while after, another attempt was made, but there was a similar setback. This occurred a third time and the plane was thereafter grounded.
A Civil Aviation Authority source indicated that it was discovered about 15 minutes before departure that the aircraft's airspeed indicator was not functioning and that was rectified.
However, the source stated, when the plane was about to take off, the alarm went off, signalling that the indicator was again malfunctioning.
The General Manager of Caribbean Airlines Carlton De Four indicated later that technicians and parts would be flown in from Trinidad to rectify the problem.
He apologised to the passengers for the inconvenience. | | | | Reads : 997 | | | |
