KINGSTON, Jamaica: Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding is worried about the illegal "drugs for guns" trade between Jamaica and neighbouring Haiti.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that Golding made the disclosure at the 65th Annual Conference of his party on Sunday, which was marred by two shooting incidents that resulted in one death and several injuries.

The Jamaica Prime Minister said that in view of the debilitating situation that already resulted in over 1,400 murders this year, Golding has expressed serious concern about the criminal link between the two Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries.
He said that he had already held talks with Haitian President Rene Preval on the matter and said that he also planned to raise the issue at the upcoming meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that is scheduled for Washington.
A CMC report stated that Golding told the Jamaica Labour Party delegates that many of the guns being used were coming from Haiti, but he was quick to point out that the Haitian government was not to blame.
“We know that there are Jamaicans who are living in the southern part of Haiti and they are running a big gun racket and a lot of guns are coming in," Golding said. “We have re-engaged the Haitian government in discussions on how to deal with it... to find out who is exporting the guns and how we can intercept." | | | | Reads : 825 | | | |
