ROSEAU, Dominica: Authorities are investigating the death of a LIAT passenger in-flight on Friday afternoon, airline sources have confirmed.

CMC reported that the passenger was travelling on LI 851 en route from Dominica to St Vincent via St Lucia when a request had to be made for emergency assistance.

Emergency services met the aircraft on arrival at the airport and, after a medical examination, the passenger was pronounced dead by a local physician.

According to the CMC report, it was not immediately clear what the circumstances were that led to the man's death.

CMC did not disclose the name of the passenger, but Caribbean Net News contacted authorities in St Vincent and learnt that the passenger was Joel Huggins, known as Toby, General Manager of the Dominica Electricity Corporation.

Huggins, 59, a Vincentian, was a well known engineer in the Eastern Caribbean, having worked as General Manager with the Montserrat Electricity Corporation, the St Vincent Electricity Corporation and two stints with the Dominica Electricity Corporation.

He also served as President of the St Vincent Rotary Club.
