Trinidad shaken by 4.7 magnitude earthquake

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: The Seismic Research Unit of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, the agency responsible for monitoring earthquakes and volcanoes for the English-speaking islands of the Eastern Caribbean, recorded an earthquake at approximately 10:48 am local time on Friday.

The earthquake struck near Port of Spain, Trinidad with a magnitude of 4.7.  The event was reportedly felt in Arima, east Cunupia, San Fernando, Point Lisas in the south, as well as Tobago.

The tremor was also felt in Upper Hopewell, St Vincent.

The Seismic Research Unit says though the magnitude had been put at 4.7, it continues to monitor the situation.
