PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad:  Information released from the US Embassy in Port of Spain says the US government plans on tightening its relationship with Trinidad and Tobago on security issues.

The US says it will continue to cooperate with the Trinidad and Tobago government to improve national security for its citizens.

As part of the fulfillment of that commitment to assist with security, the US government offered this week, April 23-27, a 5-day Weapons of Mass Destruction First Responder Awareness Course. The course is being offered to the government of Trinidad and Tobago.

A similar programme has already been held, involving about 150 Trinidad and Tobago nationals. Participants were selected from police, fire, emergency medical technicians, trainers and persons directly responsible for responding to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons threats or incidents.

The course taught participants to take protective action for responders and the public during a terrorist or WMD event.

According to the US government, it will continue to support efforts to improve national security in Trinidad and Tobago.
