Caribbean Awards presentation on November 14 in Washington DC

WASHINGTON, USA: The 15th CARAH Awards, which is under the patronage of the Caribbean Diplomatic Corps, will be held on November 14 in Washington, DC, in which a number of outstanding Caribbean personalities will be honoured and recognized.

The honourees include the legendary Cicely Tyson, who has roots in the twin-island nation of St Kitts & Nevis; Earl Graves, publisher of Black Enterprise, who has roots in Barbados; and reggae legend, Jimmy Cliff.

Chairpersons at the function will be Donna Christensen; USVI Delegate to Congress, Helen Marshall, Congresswoman, Yvette Clarke (D-NY) and the hosts include Neki Mohan, ABC TV 10, Miami John of Blake Caribbean Experience, WHUR Washington, Maureen Bunyan WJLA ABCTV7, Washington D.C.

The Release states that there will be 10 icons to celebrate, including Neil Albert, a native of Guyana for Outstanding Public Service; Andrew Ballen of Jamaican heritage; Ato Bolden, Trinidad-born Olympic medallist; Dr. Garth Graham, Excellence in Public Health and a native of Jamaica; Marcia Griffith, a Jamaican singer, Dr. Cato Laurencin, an orthopaedic surgeon and Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Connecticut; Dr. Beryl Joy Levi of Jamaica; Dr. Helen Marshall of Guyanese heritage and the first African American and second woman to assume the post of the highest elected official in a borough with a population of more than 2.2 million; Egbert Perry, an award winning real estate developer, and a native of Antigua and Barbuda; and Karl & Faye Rodney, Excellence in Journalism, Publishers of Carib News Newspaper, are of Jamaican heritage.
