PARAMARIBO, Suriname: The Maritime Authority Suriname will host a regional hydrographic training course which will be held from Monday 17 to Friday 21 November in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname.
Maritime officers from 14 countries in the region are expected to attend this course. Participation will be free of charge for two participants from each country. This training will focus on topics such as: general aspects of hydrography, hydrographic practice and data management, water levels and more.
The objectives of the training course are to instruct officers in the region on the methods of carrying out hydrographic surveys, on the principles used to design nautical charts to improve safety of navigation and on modern navigation aids.
Two Brazilian instructors will train officers with basic knowledge on hydro-cartographic techniques, at least to ensure a much needed capability, particularly after hurricanes or other incidents which could affect water depths in harbours and approaches.
The Surinamese minister of Transportation, Communication and Tourism is expected to open this regional hydrographic training course while the Director of the Maritime Authority Suriname will also take part in the inauguration. |
