CASTRIES, St Lucia: Starting in 2006, the Sergeants Mess of the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps adopted an initiative to give a food hamper to a home for youth. This year the Sergeants have committed to present the hamper to Eugenia Faustin Children's Home. The presentation is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Soufriere.

The Sergeant's Mess realised that this is yet another means for the Cadet Corps to reach out to the youth of Saint Lucia, and is also part of the community service projects that forms part of Duke of Edinburgh Award programme that the Cadets follow.

Established 13th July 1929, the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps is a para-military youth organisation in secondary schools established under the laws of Saint Lucia - The Saint Lucia Cadet Corps Act No. 23 of 2005.

Recognising this, the Ministry of Education has set the Saint Lucia Cadet Corps the mandate to work with the youth of the nation. Recently the mandate was reconfirmed by the Ministry and the Corps is expected to have a unit within each of the twenty five secondary schools and the Community College.
